Al Nasr Square as it used to be

Today Deira's main square is known as Bani Yas Square. Prior to that the Square was named Gamal Abdel Nasr Square in recognition of Egypt's Pan Arab Leader (presumably after he died 28 September 1970). Originally it may have been called Deira Square or Cinema Square since the Al Wattan Cinema was located in the Square, Taxi Square or simply the Square in Deira.
Whatever its name, the Square has always been the centre of Deiraside and focus of Deira's commercial activity.
