Dubai's Gold as it used to be.
Dubai regularly imported Gold Bullion. It was flown by small aeroplane to Al Ghusais long before Dubai Airport was built. This gold was then smuggled into India. Dubai called it "Independent Trading"! Sheikh Rashid was rumoured to be on India's President Indira Gandhi's list of most wanted smugglers for many years. Silver was brought from India to Dubai and re-exported to the Western World. Dubai was one of the major exporters of silver yet did not have a silver mine. Dubai no longer smuggles gold. Instead it produces gold ingots and sells gold jewellery to tourists and residents.
Are DAIUTB images for sale?
Simple answer is "No"! DAIUTB images are scanned from old photos, magazines etc and are low quality low resolution unsuitable for printing. Some images are provided by others so DAIUTB does not have the right to sell these images. Considerable investment in equipment, expertise and time is needed to turn DAIUTB images into printable high resolution formats. That is maybe something DAIUTB can offer in the future.

Declaration of UAE Independence 2nd December 1971
This historic event was not seen by many people. Signing took place in Sheikh Rashid's Jumeirah Beach Palace (now Union House) in front of an invited audience. Dubai had no newspapers then let alone outside TV broadcasts. There were no significant public celebrations and only a small crowd waited outside the Palace to greet the Rulers and Guests. Consequently there are no known public photographs, movies or accounts of the event.
BUT..................
Maybe you were there OR know someone who was.
